CremationIn California over 60% of the population choose cremation rather than burial. For some, the relatively low cost makes the choice a simple one. But there are many reasons why someone may prefer to be cremated—for example, you may wish to have your ashes scattered or kept by a loved one at home.
The Cremation Process Cremation is the burning of a body at extreme heat, resulting in a fine residue of ash and bone. The cremated remains may be buried, scattered, or contained in an urn. At minimum, an alternative container is required to contain the body during cremation. Alternative containers are generally made of unfinished wood, or fiberboard. In addition, cremation caskets are available for those choosing a more traditional appeal, especially when used in conjunction to a tribute ceremony wherein the body is to be present. As with burial, embalming of the body is not necessary. There are many options for timing cremation and integrating it with memorial services, depending on your wishes. Here are some examples:
Cremation services have become very competitive. Fond Remembrance offers a complete Direct Cremation for $995.00. |
BurialWhile cremation continues to be increasingly common, some people still choose burial as their choice for final disposition. Depending on your wishes, burial may occur immediately after death or days later, after a funeral or memorial service.
The Burial Process A body may be buried in the ground or above ground in a mausoleum or family crypt. Typically, burial includes containing the body within a casket. Although required by many individual cemeteries, a casket is not a legal requirement for burials in the United States. Embalming is not required for burial, even if the body will not be buried for several days. Refrigeration serves as a deterrent to decomposition as does embalming. And California state law requires bodies to be refrigerated after 24 hours. Committal Ceremony A ceremony of committal can be held at the place of final rest. The committal is held after, or sometimes in lieu of a funeral service. When following a funeral, it usually consists of a brief ceremony focusing on the disposition of the remains. Burial Costs Burial can be costly. The typical components for a burial cost are the plot, labor charge for interment, outer receptacle for the casket, headstone or marker, labor to install a headstone or marker, a proportionate share of perpetual upkeep, and administrative fees. Burial costs can amount to several times the cost of cremation. Immediate Burial Fond Remembrance offers a complete Immediate Burial Service Plan for $1,695.00. Casket selection is additional. This plan is discounted off the General Price List of $2,217.00 and this special price is reserved only for families who select an adult casket from our Company that is appropriate for the service selected. |
